THE AUS (Revised August 2011)

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 31 DECEMBER. IF ACCEPTED YOUR ITEM WILL APPEAR IN THE FOLLOWING YEAR’S ISSUE.

TRANSLATED WORKS: ALL TRANSLATED WORKS SUBMITTED FOR PUBLICATION MUST CONTAIN A CITATION OF THE ORIGINAL SOURCE PUBLICATION.

SIZE, MARGINS & LENGTH: FORMAT USING ONLY U.S. LETTER SIZE (8.5” X 11”); LEFT AND RIGHT MARGINS 1.25”, TOP AND BOTTOM 1”. THE LENGTH OF THE SUBMISSION SHOULD NOT EXCEED 30 PAGES, SINGLE-SPACED.

TEXT AND CITATION STYLE: FOLLOW THE GENERAL GUIDELINES IN THE CHICAGO MANUAL OF STYLE (15TH EDITION). ALL CITATIONS SHOULD CONFORM TO THE CHICAGO MANUAL AUTHOR-DATE SYSTEM AND SHOULD APPEAR AT THEIR APPROPRIATE PLACE IN THE TEXT, ENCLOSED WITHIN PARENTHESES. FOR EXAMPLE, (RUSSELL 1968, 281).

FOOTNOTES: SHOULD BE USED SPARINGLY AND RESERVED ONLY FOR THE AUTHOR’S OWN COMMENTS, CRITICAL DISAGREEMENTS OR SIGNIFICANT EXTRANEOUS INFORMATION. IF A WORK IS TO BE CITED HERE, IT SHOULD ALSO FOLLOW THE AUTHOR-DATE CITATION STYLE OF THE TEXT.

WORKS CITED: AN ALPHABETIZED LIST OF ALL WORKS CITED IN THE TEXT AND FOOTNOTES SHOULD BE GIVEN AT THE END OF THE TEXT UNDER THE HEADING "WORKS CITED." ALL NON-ENGLISH TITLES SHOULD HAVE AN ACCURATE ENGLISH TRANSLATION IN PARENTHESES AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE.

TRANSLITERATION: NON-ENGLISH WORDS AND PHRASES SHOULD NOT BE TRANSLITERATED. TYPE AN APPROXIMATE ENGLISH SPELLING IN THE ELECTRONIC COPY. SEND A HARD COPY BY POSTAL MAIL WITH ALL NON-ENGLISH MATERIAL WRITTEN OUT IN CLEAR PERSIAN, ARABIC, OR URDU SCRIPT IN THE MARGINS NEAR THEIR OCCURRENCE IN THE TEXT. THE EDITORS WILL ADD THE NECESSARY TRANSLITERATION IN AUS STYLE.

DEVANAGARI: LONGER QUOTATIONS IN HINDI SHOULD BE TYPED ON A SEPARATE SHEET WITH THE TEXT NOT EXCEEDING 4.3” IN WIDTH. IT SHOULD BE PRINTED ON A SHARP, LASER PRINTER AND MAILED.

TABLES: MAXIMUM WIDTH: 4.3” SET APART FROM THE RUNNING TEXT BY A BLANK LINE ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM.

NOTE: SUBMISSIONS SHOULD CONFORM TO THE AIMS AND SCOPE OF THE ANNUAL AS NOTED IN EACH ISSUE. BEFORE SUBMISSION, CHECK RECENT VOLUMES OF THE AUS AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF THOROUGHLY WITH ITS STYLE AND FORMAT CONVENTIONS TO INSURE THAT YOU COMPLY WITH THEM. SUBMISSIONS THAT DO NOT COMPLY WILL BE RETURNED TO THE AUTHOR FOR REFORMATTING.
