BRIAN SPOONER is an anthropologist and a polyglot. He teaches at the University of Pennsylvania and serves as President of the American Institute of Pakistan Studies. He has translated from Persian and contributed numerous essays to Baluchi anthropological studies. He is the co-author, with William L. Hanaway, of Reading Nasta'liq: Persian and Urdu Hands from 1500 to the Present.
