RAKHSHANDA JALIL has, briefly, taught English at the universities of Delhi and Aligarh and has worked for various publishing houses for over 15 years. She reviews literary works, translates from Hindi and Urdu into English and is a freelance book-editor. Her translation of Premchand’s stories, The Temple and the Mosque, was published by Harper Collins in 1992. Her two most recent publications are Urdu Stories and a volume of Asghar Wajahat's satirical vignettes, Lies: Half-Told. She is currently working on a translation of Shahryar's poems.
