MUSHIRUL HASAN is Professor of Modern Indian History and Director, Academy of Third World Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia (Delhi). He is the author of several books, among them Legacy of a Divided Nation: India’s Muslims Since Independence; and, more recently, Inventing Boundaries: Gender, Politics and the Partition of India and, with M. Asaduddin, Image and Representation: Stories of Muslim Lives, both published by Oxford University Press.
