MUKHTAR SIDDIQI (1917-1972) was born in Sialkot, Pakistan and worked for the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and Pakistan Television. His poems are characterized by a lyrical exploration of the cultural and civilizational sensibilities of his milieu as well as by poetics related to Indic musical traditions. His poetry collections, including Manzil-e Shab, Seh Harfi and Asar, attest to his stature as a significant poet in modern Urdu literature.
