KASIM DALVI was headmaster of Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He came to London in 1981 and has served as Coordinator for Community Languages, Deputy Head of the Multicultural Development Service and Head of the Bilingual Education Project in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. He was Chief Examiner and Chair of Examiners for Urdu Examinations of the University of London School Examinations Board. He now teaches Urdu at the Language Centre in the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He is co-author of Teach Yourself Urdu with Dr. David Matthews and worked closely with Ralph Russell in promoting Urdu teaching in the U.K.
